There isn't one best month. Choose winter for snow and Arctic activities, summer for road trips and midnight sun, or autumn for changing landscapes and the return of the Northern Lights.
You need sufficiently dark skies, which means the aurora season generally runs from autumn until early spring.
The exact period depends on latitude, but across northern Finnmark the sun remains above the horizon for an extended period around summer.
No, but the amount of daylight is very different from summer. Winter travel simply requires different planning and expectations.
